Jumbo Arjuna has weighty issues
Mysuru, Sep 11 : Dasara elephant Arjuna tasked with the onerous job of carrying the fabled 750-kg golden howdah during Jamboo Savari on October 23, proved his worthiness, weighing highest among others, on Thursday.
Of the six elephants in the first batch, Arjuna weighed the highest of 5,445 kg against the estimate of 5,100 kg after he was brought from the forest to the city ahead of the ‘Nada Habba’.
Abhimanyu came second with 4,975 kg, followed by Balarama 4,835 kg, Vikrama 3,675 kg, Cauvery 2,900 kg and Chaitra 2,800 kg. The elephants were weighed at an electronic weigh bridge on Dhanwantri Road in the city.Forest Department veterinarian Dr Nagaraj, who has been entrusted with the task of caring the pachyderms, told Deccan Herald, following the weighing of jumbos, rehearsal will start from Friday, with the elephants taken on the Jamboo Savari route, both during morning and evening hours. “Initially, the jumbos will be acclimatised with the route up to old RMC Circle and later till Bannimantap, the culmination point of Jamboo Savari,” he said.EOM
