Smart State Initiative: Odisha inks MOU with SDN

Bhubaneswar: Aiming to make Odisha a ‘Smart State’ through talent development, the Department of School and Mass Education, Government of Odisha signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with  Wadhwani Foundation’s Skills Development Network (SDN) on Friday.

Ranjana Chopra, Commissioner cum Secretary – School & Mass Education, Government of Odisha exchanged the MoU with Austin Thomas, Director- SDN, Wadhwani Foundation in the presence of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, and other Ministers and senior officers of Odisha Government, and announced a strategic partnership for  four years for result-oriented skills based training in a vocational subject to students.

As per the MOU, while SDN will provide effective program management (design, planning & quality), the technology platform, e‐content, and knowledge management expertise to operationalize the Program Management Unit within the Odisha state, the State will set up and run the Program Management Unit.

Sources said, the MoU is a significant step in creating the much needed integrated system that will support the full life-cycle of entrepreneurship, innovation and skilling to make Odisha a leader in job creation and talent development through industry linkages  and Sector Skills Councils (SSC’s) that result in internship and apprenticeship opportunities and courses that are relevant, market aligned and in demand.

FICCI, UCCI hold workshop on ATA system

Bhubaneswar: Showcasing the importance of ATA Carnet instrument for
the business community, a workshop was organized by FICCI jointly with
the Utkal Chamber of Commerce & Industry Ltd (UCCI) here in the city
on Friday.

The workshop was attended by Deep Shekhar, Commissioner of Central
Excise, Customs & Service Tax, Bhubaneswar and Mr. P.S. Pruthi, Former
Member, Customs Excise & Service Tax Appellate Tribunal (CESTAT).

While the workshop drew participation from senior customs officials,
industry experts, representatives from export promotion councils, film
associations, freight forwarding companies, customs house agents, fair
and exhibition organizers, participants present on the occasion
interacted with the guests on issues  pertaining  to temporary imports
of goods, and drew benefit from the deliberations of the sessions.

It may be noted that ATA Carnet is a temporary admission document,
which simplifies the customs procedures and clearances in a foreign
country, without paying duty or a bank guarantee for temporary import
into that country.
